Liberty Media acquired the rights to MotoGP – Kommersant

American Liberty Media Corp., which owns the commercial rights to Formula 1, announced about the purchase of the Spanish Dorna Sports. Thanks to this deal, Liberty will receive commercial rights to the world’s premier motorcycle racing series, MotoGP.
As part of the agreement, Liberty Media will acquire an 86% stake in MotoGP, with MotoGP management retaining approximately 14% of the business. Actually, the American company is buying out the share that is currently held by the Canada Pension Fund and the tire manufacturer Bridgepoint.
As part of the deal, MotoGP itself was valued at €4.2 billion. And Liberty Media will pay €3.5 billion for 86% of Dorna’s share capital. The parties intend to close the deal by the end of this year.
