LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky on Wednesday, during a meeting with military commissars, spoke about the party initiative, which will allow journalists and bloggers covering the special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine to be given the status of a combat veteran.

“Everyone who covers the NMD should have guarantees … Journalists, media workers of any who are sent from the editorial office, or just individual military correspondents — it doesn’t matter who are sent to the zone of combat contact of the NMD, should be able to receive the status of a combat veteran,” said Mr. Slutsky. At the same time, in his opinion, it does not matter whether the journalist works in the staff of the editorial office and covers events on her instructions or goes to the front line on an individual basis to tell about what is happening to the subscribers of his blog.

It should be noted that the chairman of the LDPR has already raised the issue of guarantees for military correspondents at a similar meeting in August last year in Donetsk. At the July 5 event, he said that he had already sent letters with relevant proposals, including to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Mr. Slutsky also spoke about the Liberal Democratic Party’s project to create a “School of a young military correspondent”, where young journalists would be trained.
