Deputies of the People’s Council of the Lugansk People’s Republic elected Leonid Pasechnik to the post of head of the LPR, reports “RIA News”. Later, Mr. Pasechnik in his Telegram channel announced that he took the oath of allegiance to the Constitution of the Russian Federation and took office as head of the region. Before that, he was the acting head of the LPR.
According to the agency, 49 deputies were present at the meeting. Deputy of the People’s Council from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Alexander Ermolenko and the head of the regional branch of the New People party Vadim Kolesnik were also presented as candidates for the post of head of the republic. All deputies voted unanimously for the candidacy of Mr. Pasechnik, RIA Novosti reports.
Leonid Pasechnik was born on March 15, 1970 in Lugansk (then Voroshilovgrad). In 1975, his family moved to Magadan. Graduated from the Donetsk Higher Military-Political School of Engineering and Signal Corps. In 1993-2014, he was an employee of the Security Services of Ukraine and held various positions in the department. In 2014 he went over to the side of the LPR forces. On October 9, 2014, he was appointed Minister of State Security of the LPR.
On November 24, 2017, he became acting head of the LPR. On November 25, he was confirmed as head of the LPR. On November 11, 2018, he was elected head of the LPR, following the election results with 68.3% of those who came to vote. On October 4, 2022, he was appointed acting head of the LPR after the republic joined the Russian Federation.
Earlier today, September 23, for the post of head of the Donetsk People’s Republic was elected Denis Pushilin. Before this, after the entity joined Russia in October 2022, he was acting.
