The LDPR faction has prepared a bill for submission to the State Duma, according to which the maximum income of the self-employed may increase from 2.4 to 4.8 million rubles. This was announced by the head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov. The changes are expected to come into effect from January 2024.
“Income taxes are unchanged, but if entrepreneurial ingenuity allows you to earn more than the annual limit of 2.4 million rubles designated by law, the tax rate changes. And the type of employment formally remains the same, but taxes are already higher, as is the risk of going into the shadows. There are too many of her in the business. As an option that would solve this problem, the LDPR deputies prepared a bill to increase the salary threshold for the self-employed to 4.8 million rubles. “Self-employed citizens not only fill their budget, but also quite significantly support the federal one with paid taxes,” he said.
The authors of the bill note that the amount of the maximum income has not changed since the entry into force of the law – from January 1, 2019. The explanatory note to the document notes that a significant increase in prices for goods and services since 2020 has led to the fact that for many self-employed people, the income began to exceed the established maximum income limit. According to the deputies, an increase in the amount of the maximum income of the self-employed will reduce the number of “shadow transactions”, as well as increase tax revenues to the budget.
According to the Federal Tax Service, by the end of April 2023, the number of self-employed in Russia exceeded 7.4 million people. A year ago, this figure was close to 4.8 million people. From June 29, amendments to the Civil Code will come into force, which will allow the self-employed to register trademarks. Now only legal entities and individual entrepreneurs have such a right.
