Lavrov: words about the security threat from Russia remain on Pashinyan’s conscience

The statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan about the threat to the security of the republic from Russia will remain on his conscience. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
“The statements of the Armenian leader you quoted [Никола Пашиняна] I leave it completely on his conscience, ”said Lavrov (quote according to TASS).
Earlier today, the Russian minister noted Moscow’s readiness to organize negotiations on a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, at the same time, the Russian side will not insist on this, he specified. Lavrov added that Russia is not against the participation of “external players” in the dialogue between the republics, but this should not be a reason for geopolitical games.
Minister drew attention that the European Union is abusing its relations with Baku and Yerevan. According to him, Brussels is “pushing through” its mission on the territory of Armenia, which “raises serious doubts in terms of legitimacy.”
On December 12, 2022, Azerbaijan blocked the Stepanakert-Goris highway in the Lachin corridor. This is the only road that connects Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia. According to Yerevan, due to the blockage of the corridor, there was a shortage of essential goods, food and medicine.
Ten days after blocking the corridor, Pashinyan criticized the actions of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, saying that the mission was not fulfilling its obligations. He informedthat in connection with this, Yerevan can initiate the dispatch of a multinational mission to the region in the UN Security Council.
In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Kremlin noted that the peacekeepers are doing everything possible to ensure order in Karabakh. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova named Pashinyan’s accusations are “absurd”.
