Lavrov: the course of the West to isolate Russia has failed completely

The course of the West, aimed at isolating Russia from the rest of the world, has failed completely, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, speaking at the World Online Conference on Multipolarity.
According to him, the idea of the United States and partners to force the world to live according to the invented “order based on rules” also failed. He noted that such an outcome is natural, and it is similar to an attempt to turn back time.
“I will mention … the complete failure of the line of the Westerners to isolate Russia. The states of the world majority, in which about 85% of the world’s population lives, do not want to “pull chestnuts out of the fire” for the former colonial metropolises,” Lavrov said.
He also pointed out that the current realities are the development of a measure towards multipolarity, as well as the emergence of new world centers in Eurasia, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
“At the same time, they are guided by their fundamental national interests, pursue an independent policy in internal and external affairs. They no longer want to be hostages of other people’s geopolitical games and executors of someone else’s will,” Lavrov said.
He also recalled the significant decrease in the share of the G7 countries in world GDP over the past 30 years, and the rapid growth in the share of developing countries. The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that at present it is China that is the first economic power in the world in terms of purchasing power parity.
He also called for uniting the efforts of key world centers on the principles of the UN Charter, including ensuring in practice respect for the sovereign equality of states. Lavrov noted that Moscow is at the forefront of international efforts to strengthen the multipolar, legal, democratic principles of interstate communication and will continue to work actively on the UN platform, including the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter.
The Global Conference on Multipolarity was initiated by a group of political scientists and public figures from Brazil, India, and China, and is being implemented with the active participation of the International Movement of Russophiles (MDR). More than 120 experts from more than 60 countries from all continents participate in the event.
