The question of the inclusion of the African Union (AU) in the G20 will be resolved in the near future. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov at a meeting of the Business Council under the Ministry.
He noted that this will happen thanks to the active participation of Russia. “In the near future, with our active assistance, the issue of including the African Union in the G20 will be resolved. This will allow the continent to fully participate in the formation of the international agenda and in the mechanisms of global governance,” explained Lavrov (quote from RIA Novosti).
Currently, two dozen countries are permanent members of the G20, including Russia, the United States, Great Britain, Turkey, Canada, China, South Africa, India, and the European Union. The AU includes 55 African states.
