The UN Secretariat and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are leaving almost weekly notes from the Russian side about shelling and sabotage attempts against the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant without reaction, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“I also draw your attention to the fact that the UN Secretariat and the IAEA do not react in the same way to our almost weekly notes about shelling and sabotage attempts against the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. I would not want this next anti-Russian preparation to “materialize” – emphasized Lavrov, answering a question about the West’s accusations against Russia in connection with the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

Former Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova statedthat Russia will respond extremely harshly to any attacks by Ukraine on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. In addition, Russia will protect the critical infrastructure of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, including the plant’s power lines, and Energodar, which is home to the facility’s employees and their families.

ZNPP has been under Russian control since the end of February 2022. Since then, the plant and the city of Energodar, where it is located, have been subjected to regular shelling by Ukraine. In early September last year, an IAEA mission arrived at ZNPP. The organization called for an end to the attacks on the station and the establishment of a safe zone around it.
