Lavrov: Russia never asked for talks with Ukraine

Russia did not ask for negotiations with Ukraine, but is ready to listen to the other side, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
“And when we are accused of constantly asking for some kind of negotiations in order to gain time, so to speak, in order to gather additional forces for a special military operation, well, this is both ridiculous and unpleasant because people lie, they lie frankly, ”the diplomat noted (quote according to RIA Novosti).
According to him, the Russian side has never asked for any negotiations. “But we have always said that if someone has an interest in a negotiated solution, we are ready to listen,” Lavrov added.
Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov declared about the impossibility of holding negotiations with Kyiv because of their denial by the Ukrainian side. In particular, the refusal of Ukraine at the legislative level to negotiate with Russia hinders the dialogue. He added that in order to resume dialogue, Ukraine must not only repeal the law refusing to negotiate with Moscow, but also show political will.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions became part of Russia.
Since the beginning of hostilities, the parties have held negotiations several times. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. Later, the process was frozen, since Ukraine withdrew from it.
