Moscow is ready to discuss serious proposals to stop the conflict in Ukraine, which will take into account the interests of Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the Primakov Readings forum.
“If now there is a serious proposal on how to stop this conflict while fulfilling our absolutely legal demands, of course, we will be ready to talk,” he said (quote according to TASS).
Yesterday, December 6, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that in the Kremlin do not see prospects for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. “The goals of the special operation must be achieved: the Russian Federation must and will achieve its goals,” he said. Later NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg declaredthat, in his opinion, the conditions for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine “have not yet been created.” Russia, he believes, has not demonstrated its readiness for negotiations while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
At the end of November, Peskov said that in order to resume dialogue, Ukraine must not only repeal the law refusing to negotiate with Moscow, but also show political will. According to him, Kyiv must show readiness to discuss Russia’s demands, “which are well known.”
Since the beginning of hostilities, the parties have held negotiations several times. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. Later, the process was frozen, since Ukraine withdrew from it.
