Lavrov held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister in India

The Russian Foreign Minister met with his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang on the sidelines of a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries in India. About it reported on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The ministers highly appreciated the dynamics of the development of Russian-Chinese relations against the backdrop of increasing geopolitical instability. Issues related to the implementation of the agreements reached during the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow were discussed.

The parties also discussed several “hot” topics, including efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The ministers also talked about the prospects for the development of the SCO, as well as the coordination of actions between Moscow and Beijing in the UN, BRICS, RIC and the G20.

Earlier today, the Chinese Foreign Ministry urged Russia and Ukraine to refrain from steps that could escalate the conflict, commenting on the drone attack on the Kremlin.

February 24 China introduced its plan to exit the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said China’s proposal was more like a “voice” than a peace plan. He added that such an initiative is unrealizable without a clause on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine. The Chinese President paid an official visit to Moscow from March 20 to 22. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the talks constructive and successful. Following the talks, the leaders of Russia and China signed a number of statements. In particular, a document was adopted on a plan for the development of key areas of Russian-Chinese economic cooperation until 2030.
