Lavrov discussed the Ukrainian crisis with the Chinese Foreign Minister

During the conversation, Lavrov congratulated his Chinese colleague on his appointment to the post of minister and wished him success in his work. The parties also “highly appreciated the progressive development of Russian-Chinese relations,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
In particular, the ministers noted the general rejection of the West’s policy towards Russia and China, as well as the desire of countries to restrain the development of countries with the help of sanctions. In addition, Lavrov and Wang Yi highly appreciated the interaction between the Russian Federation and China in international structures, including the UN, BRICS, SCO and G20. The Ukrainian crisis was also one of the topics of the conversation.
It is noted that the telephone conversation between the foreign ministers reaffirmed “the unity or broad consonance of the approaches of Moscow and Beijing to world affairs.”
On July 25, the Standing Committee (PC) of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China removed Qin Gang from the post of Foreign Minister and appointed Wang Yi in his place. Qin took over as Chinese Foreign Minister in December 2022. Prior to that, Wang Yi was also Chinese Foreign Minister since 2013.
