Lavrov condemned Israeli strikes on Syrian territory

Russia condemns Israeli strikes on Syrian territory, and also demands to observe the norms of international law and respect the sovereignty of Syria, informs TASS with reference to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“We strongly condemned Israel’s dangerous practice of strikes on Syrian territory, including the very disturbing episode when Damascus International Airport was attacked on June 10, and subsequently the port of Tartus was struck,” the diplomat said.
Lavrov also stressed that Russia stands for the observance of “basic norms of international law.” In particular, the head of the Foreign Ministry noted that this also applies to other countries conducting illegal activities in Syria. Such activity violates UN Security Council resolutions and encourages separatism, Lavrov added.
The Minister also noted that Russia is satisfied with the normalization of relations between Syria and other Arab countries that are members of the League of Arab States. “We are ready to contribute in every possible way to the further development of this positive trend,” he concluded.
Israel has previously reported a growing Iranian military presence in neighboring Syria, which it perceives as a threat to its security. On August 14, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the death of three soldiers after the strike of the Israeli Air Force. Earlier, on the night of June 26, two Israeli rockets fell near Damascus International Airport.
