Reproaches against Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh are unfounded, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
“From various sources, I won’t be specific, there are constantly reproaches, mostly unfounded, against Russian peacekeepers who work in very difficult conditions, given that claims are constantly being made from both sides, and from a third party, and considering the need to strictly follow the procedures that are enshrined in tripartite agreements, ”said Lavrov (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Speaking about the situation in the Lachin corridor, the minister stressed that Moscow is in favor of restoring a full-fledged transport connection and resolving disagreements on the development of ore deposits in the region.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said earlier that the Russian peacekeeping mission is not fulfilling its obligations in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, as a result of the “illegal blockade” by Azerbaijan, the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is extremely tense – a number of essential goods, including food, are missing.
In response, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out that Russian peacekeepers are doing everything possible to ensure order in Nagorno-Karabakh, their actions are conditioned by the agreements of the parties, he said. “We will certainly continue to discuss this topic with our Armenian colleagues and allies,” Peskov said.
