Moscow and Beijing have far-reaching plans to develop cooperation, declared Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
“We have very far-reaching plans for the development of bilateral cooperation in all areas and a rich foreign policy agenda, given the role of Russia and China as a stabilizing factor in the entire system of international relations,” he said.
Lavrov also once again congratulated Qin Gang on his appointment to the post of minister, expressing confidence that cooperation between the two countries would allow “progressive progress in all areas” that were agreed upon, including at the highest level.
At the end of February, Wang Yi, head of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, visited Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lavrov. At the meetings, issues of cooperation between Russia and China and the upcoming meeting of the Russian leader and Chinese President Xi Jinping were discussed. Then Putin asked to convey his best wishes to the chairman, naming his friend.
Lavrov during the talks noted that Moscow welcomes Beijing’s constructive role in resolving acute international issues, as well as the similarity of the parties’ views on the causes of the Ukrainian crisis. At the same time, Russia is committed to the principle of the indivisibility of security, according to which the security of one country cannot be strengthened at the expense of the security of another. Putin, in turn, asked Wang Yi to convey his best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom the Russian leader called a friend. He also added that Moscow is waiting for the Chinese leader to visit.
