Lavrov announced the unwillingness of the West and Kyiv to compromise

The statement of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, made in Washington, confirms the unwillingness of the “owners” of Kyiv to compromise, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the meeting with the leaders of the Russian media.

“If we talk about compromises, then during a triumphant visit to the United States, Zelensky said: “A just world means no compromises.” This is exactly what its owners are now guided by – “no compromises, we will dictate our will.” That is why it is necessary to defeat Russia not only on the battlefield, as they say, but also to inflict a “strategic” defeat on it, so that it would be disrespectful to anyone, ”he said.

The vast majority of countries see the West’s approach in this vein, Lavrov added.

Last week, The Wall Street Journal, citing sources informedthat the Zelensky team is finalizing the details of the plan for the peaceful settlement of the conflict, which consists of ten points. According to the publication, proposals under development may be submitted in February 2023.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia.

Since the outbreak of hostilities, the parties have held talks several times in February and March, mediated by Turkey. The previous meeting of representatives of Russia and Ukraine took place on March 29 in Istanbul, after which the process was frozen.

The Kremlin has repeatedly spoken about Ukraine’s unwillingness to negotiate with Russia. At the end of November, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that negotiations between the two countries are now impossible, since they are denied by the Ukrainian side. Then Peskov added that in order to resume dialogue, Ukraine must not only repeal the law refusing to negotiate with Moscow, but also show political will.
