The countries of the global South refused to sign statements following the meeting on Ukraine in Copenhagen, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Portuguese Radio and TV media group. It published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to him, the West has publicly announced its plans to “pull” the countries of the Global South, including the BRICS countries, on the Ukrainian issue, so that the peace treaty will be concluded according to the so-called “Zelensky formula”.
“The meeting in Copenhagen was devoted to this, where a number of respected countries of the Global South were invited, which, as we were told, refused to sign joint statements. But such efforts will continue. This is precisely the core of the political process that the West wants to impose on everyone else: to win over our friends, like-minded people, strategic partners to the side of Vladimir Zelensky for the sake of the capitulation of the Russian Federation,” Lavrov said.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also added that the quality of diplomacy in these attempts “leaves much to be desired, to put it mildly.”
June 28 Bloomberg, citing sources reportedthat G7 and EU officials met with representatives of India, Turkey, Brazil, South Africa and Saudi Arabia last week to discuss the “peace formula” proposed by the Ukrainian side. Representatives from China were also invited to the meeting. One of the agency’s sources noted that the majority of participants agreed that the settlement should comply with the fundamental principles of the UN, but on other points of discussion the parties had “serious disagreements.”
Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sous-Sherpa of the Russian Federation to BRICS Pavel Knyazev June 30 declared RIA Novosti that the country’s partners in the organization “understand the futility of such a discussion of the situation in Ukraine or a settlement between Ukraine and Russia without Russia.”
