The Palestinian-Israeli conflict could escalate into a regional one; the risk is quite high. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“As for the Gaza Strip, the risk of this crisis escalating into a region-wide conflict is quite serious,” he said (cit. according to TASS).
Lavrov added that Moscow considers attempts to “blame everything on Iran” provocative. “The Iranian leadership, I believe, takes a fairly responsible, balanced position and is precisely calling for preventing this conflict from spreading across the entire region and neighboring countries,” Lavrov added.
The Palestinian-Israeli conflict escalated on October 7 after the Palestinian organization Hamas began fighting against Israel early in the morning. Against the backdrop of an attack by militants, the IDF launched Operation Iron Swords, and the country went into a state of war. 300,000 reservists were also mobilized. According to the latest data, over 3,400 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis have died as a result of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
October 17 at the Iranian Foreign Ministry admitted the possibility of the republic entering into the conflict and taking preventive measures against Israel. Tehran clarified that the “red line” is a possible Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian then said that if action is not taken now, then tomorrow “we will have to fight the Zionist forces in Beirut.”
