It rests on three pillars – the metro, MCC and MCD. And Vladimir Putin, as Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin noted, is directly related to all these projects. The MCC, MCD-1, MCD-2, as well as the Big Circle Metro Line were built on behalf of the President and launched with his participation.

“Today we have a historic event: the launch of the MCD-3 will unite the northwest and southeast, the Leningrad and Paveletsky directions,” Sobyanin said on Thursday, noting that colossal work was carried out “under the direct control” of Putin. Tracks had to be laid not only on the surface, but also underground. The total length of the third diameter, the end points of which are Ramenskoye and Zelenograd, is 85 km. There will be 38 stations on the route, and travel time and, importantly, travel costs will be significantly reduced.

As the host of the ceremony, Sobyanin gave the floor to the Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov, who promised that MCD-3 would not remain unclaimed. Now, 1 million people live in the adjacent territories of the Moscow region, but soon, thanks to renovation, three times as many will live. “The quality of the trip and return home is very important,” Vorobyov said. He also thanked Vladimir Putin for his attention to the transport projects of the Moscow Region, noting that the long-awaited bypass of the Oktyabrsky village on the M-5 highway began to be actively built after the president’s instruction.

The head of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov, in turn, said that the last railway entrance to Moscow was built at the beginning of the last century – in 1908. And for the last 100-plus years, such projects have not even been taken up. “We were afraid,” Sergey Sobyanin explained, “this is a very difficult task.” “But when you made the political decision to implement it, the plan began to be implemented,” he added, addressing Putin. “Great,” the President praised.

After the movement along the MCD-3 was launched, the ceremony participants began to convince the head of state of the need to speed up the construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed line. A new high-speed road is needed, they say, for both passengers and shippers. The capacity of the existing infrastructure has long been exhausted, it is no longer possible to increase the volume of traffic, as required by development plans, along the old routes. Sobyanin noted that even the station under the high-speed rail line is practically ready: when the station for the MCD-3 was being built, Zelenograd provided for a special construct for high-speed trains.

Vladimir Putin supported the officials’ arguments: the right moment for the construction of the high-speed line has indeed arrived. “The project of a high-speed railway between Moscow and St. Petersburg has been discussed for a long time. Putin noted that the launch of the high-speed railway will reduce the travel time from Moscow to St. Petersburg to 2 hours and 15 minutes, to Tver – to 39 minutes, and from St. Petersburg to Novgorod – to 29 minutes. However, many experts continue to doubt the expediency of spending on high-speed lines in the context of a declining population of the Russian Federation. Moreover, Putin himself said two years ago that the implementation of this project could lead to the fact that “aviation on the shoulder of Moscow-St. Petersburg will cease to exist.”
