Lady Gaga will be Harley Quinn in the sequel to the Joker which takes on the appearance of a musical

The singer will play the psychopathic criminal’s sidekick played by Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Phillips’ sequel slated for 2024.
As the rumor grew louder, the pop star and actress Lady Gaga has confirmed his role in the film’s sequel Joker, the Oscar-winning psychological thriller, by posting a musical teaser on Twitter on Thursday August 4. The clip shows silhouettes dancing to the tune of the song Cheek to Cheekoriginally written by Irving Berlin in 1935 for the film top-hat of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, with Phoenix and Gaga’s names flashing onscreen.
Joker – Madness for two (in French in the text) will see Joaquin Phoenix resume his role as a psychopathic killer. The release is announced for October 4, 2024, five years to the day after the release of the first part. The 47-year-old actor, known for portraying dark or emotionally troubled characters, donned the psychopathic clown costume for the first time in the film Joker from 2019 depicting the origins of DC Comics’ superhero archenemy Batman. The role had earned him the Oscar for best actor the same year.
Joker traces the psychological descent of Arthur Fleck, a failed clown and aspiring comedian turned cold-blooded killer who inspires a wave of violence in Gotham City. According to The Wrap , a source close to the project would have revealed that a large part of the plot of this new component will take place within the prison of Arkham. In the comics as well as the 1992 Batman animated series, this asylum for criminals is the meeting place between Harley Quinn, then Dr Harleen Quinzel, and the Joker. A relationship that will turn out to be extremely toxic and dark.
No further details on the sequel were given by Warner Bros. But the Hollywood trade publication, variety reported that the new production is expected to be a musical.
Lady Gaga will therefore be the latest in a long line of actresses who have played or voiced the iconic character of Harley Quinn. More recently, Margot Robbie starred as the “Queen of Crime of Gotham City” in the movies Suicide Squad (2016 and 2021) and Birds of Prey (2020).
It is not yet known if Margot Robbie will continue to play Harley Quinn. However, the Joker films starring Joaquin Phoenix take place in a separate cinematic universe, which would likely mean that Margot Robbie can still reprise her role as the iconic villain in any future film.
