The publication notes that in 2023 alone, the level of support for LNG fell from 20 to 15%. It is alleged that Scholz’s post could be taken by the current Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius – it was he who topped the rating of the most popular German politicians.
The reason for Scholz’s resignation may be a scandal due to a fraudulent scheme that was carried out in 2020 with the Wirecard company. Scholz was then Minister of Economics and “didn’t see it through,” although monitoring this was his direct responsibility. However, he always denied his guilt for what happened.
At the same time, German analysts doubt that Scholz will really leave his post in the near future, the publication notes.
