Kyrgyzstan is considering switching to English law to attract investors

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov said that his country could switch to the English legal system. According to him, such a system could create fair courts in Kyrgyzstan, which, in turn, would attract investment to the country.

“We are looking at the aspect of introducing English law. This is a necessary step if we want to enter the international investment market,” Sadyr Japarov said at the People’s Kurultai, his words are quoted “Sputnik Kyrgyzstan”. According to him, Kyrgyzstan needs a mechanism for attracting investments through the stock market to finance national projects, hydroelectric power plants and industrial facilities.

“Citizens and external investors have the opportunity to invest in the construction of large facilities. For large investments, first of all, it is necessary to have fair courts,” the president added. He also called for friendly relations with investors and support for them, since their projects will improve the lives of citizens.

Sadyr Japarov noted that due to corruption, Kyrgyzstan has not developed for almost 30 years. He emphasized that no investor would invest “money in a country with criminal elements.” The President promised that “the merciless fight against corruption will continue and intensify” and announced the creation of a working group to develop a state anti-corruption strategy for 2025–2030.

The English legal system, or Common Law, operates in the countries of the British Commonwealth (including Canada and Australia), the USA, New Zealand and Northern Ireland.
