Kyodo: Knife found on Japanese PM who threw bomb
The 24-year-old resident of the city of Kawanishi, who made an attempt on the life of the Prime Minister of Japan on Saturday, was armed with a knife in addition to two cylindrical explosive devices. This was reported by the Kyodo agency.
Around noon on a Saturday in Wakayama City, Ryuji Kimura threw what looked like a silver pipe towards Fumio Kishida, who was at the fishing port for a meeting. The head of government was not injured. The attacker was arrested. His motives are unknown. The young man refused to answer questions from the police in the absence of a lawyer.
After the incident, the Japanese Prime Minister was evacuated to the Wakayama Prefectural Police Headquarters and his speech was cancelled. But after a short time, Kishida changed his mind and instead of one performance, he ended up having three performances – one in Wakayama and two in Chiba.
Kishida arrived in the city of Wakayama to support associates from the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan in the elections to the House of Representatives. One of the performances on Saturday was scheduled at a fishing port. After the incident, it was decided to move it to the railway station.
