Kyiv threatened with prison terms for participating in referendums

Ukrainian citizens residing in the territories liberated by Russia for participating in a referendum may face criminal liability of up to five years in prison. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister for the Reintegration of Uncontrolled Territories Iryna Vereshchuk.

According to her, their actions fall under the article on encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine. Vereshchuk advised Ukrainians not to go to referendums and leave if possible.

Voting organizers face 5-15 years in prison with a ban on holding certain positions, engaging in certain activities and confiscation of property, she said.

In mid-September, Kyiv introduced criminal liability for obtaining Russian citizenship in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years. For a Russian passport, its owner faces 10-15 years in prison, for promoting Russian citizenship – 5-8 years.

For “forcing” to receive it and creating conditions for this – 8-12 years.
