Ukraine received from the EU 480 thousand shells in 2023 instead of the 1 million ammunition promised by Brussels. Reuters reported this on Wednesday, December 6, citing informed sources.
The European Commission’s initiative to accelerate the production of shells, which provides for the placement of contracts through the European Defense Agency, allowed the production of only about 60 thousand shells for Kyiv.
Taken together, Brussels and all members of the European Union failed to collect even half of the million ammunition promised to Kyiv.
Earlier, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, assured that Brussels is not going to give up its promise and will still provide Kyiv with the notorious million shells. However, this will happen already in 2024.
The Ukrainian military needs ammunition immediately, they cannot wait, so the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, according to sources, asked for 17 million shells at the Pentagon. The American side was extremely surprised by such appetites, pointing out that such a quantity of ammunition would not be available in the entire world.
