Kyiv may request the extradition of evaders from other countries

The Ukrainian authorities are studying the possibility of appealing to other states with a request to extradite to their homeland Ukrainian citizens liable for military service who left the country on fake medical certificates. This was announced on Thursday, August 31, by the head of the parliamentary faction of the Servant of the People party, David Arakhamia.

The People’s Deputy said that we are talking about Ukrainians who “bought these certificates and, using these actually forged documents, went abroad.”

Arakhamia admitted that “law enforcement officers have no way to reach them right now,” however, in Ukraine, “the direction of international legal assistance has greatly increased.” The politician assured that Kyiv could apply for extradition to any country in the world, with the exception of Russia.

Earlier, Deputy Ukrainian Minister of Defense Anna Malyar said that the spread of corruption in the military commissariats of Ukraine can’t justify to avoid military service. According to the official, “love for the Motherland and protection of one’s home are unconditional things and have no causal links with those who commit crimes.”

At the same time, the Zinkivsky District Court of the Poltava Region recognized draft evader man liable for military service innocentsince “employees and civil servants of the TCC (Ukrainian military registration and enlistment offices – author) … do not have the authority to complete the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but only in accordance with labor legislation, under an employment contract, which should be a voluntary decision of such an employee.”
