The Ukrainian side announced the transfer to Russia of all seriously wounded prisoners whose condition allowed for transportation, follows from a statement by the Ukrainian coordinating headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war.

The transfer of prisoners took place unilaterally with the participation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the headquarters stressed.

“In this case, we are not talking about the exchange of prisoners of war, but specifically about repatriation: the return of seriously wounded prisoners without any conditions, as provided for by international humanitarian law,” the message on the website of the headquarters says.

The Russian side has not yet commented on this information. Vedomosti sent a request to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The fact that negotiations on the return of seriously wounded Russians from captivity continue in early March informed Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova. She then called this topic the most painful and important.

The last exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine took place on March 7. Then it was planned according to the formula 160 by 160, but the Ukrainian side agreed to exchange only 90 people. Then the Ombudsman said that the negotiation process continues and the services are fighting “for each of our guys.” Moskalkova later published a list of 70 soldiers whom Kyiv refused to accept. The list included men, the youngest of whom is 22 years old.

On February 16, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the return of 101 Russian servicemen from captivity. On February 4, the Ministry of Defense announced the return of 63 Russian servicemen from the territory of Ukraine. The defense ministry also clarified that the group of released Russian servicemen included persons of a “sensitive category”, their exchange became possible thanks to the mediation of the UAE authorities.
