Some countries refuse to sell Ukraine the weapons it needs in sufficient quantities for political reasons, declared Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba in an interview with Politico.
“We have to recognize one fact: there are countries in the world that have what Ukraine needs, but are not going to sell it in sufficient quantities for political reasons,” he said.
According to Kuleba, Ukraine needs to launch its own production of weapons in order not to depend on the “whims” of third countries. The minister added that Kyiv now needs tanks and air defense systems.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began to provide financial and military assistance to Kyiv. The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Back in April, Moscow sent a note of protest to all countries, including the United States.
At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that by providing military assistance to Ukraine, the United States is trying to drag out the conflict. Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov pointed to Washington’s economic interest in arms supplies to Kyiv. According to him, in this way the United States seeks to “skim the cream.” According to the Pentagon, since the beginning of the special operation, the United States has allocated a total of more than $20 billion for military assistance to Ukraine.
