Kremlin: Russia continues to fight terrorism in various forms

Just like 21 years ago, when the tragedy occurred in Nord-Ost, Russia continues its uncompromising fight against terrorists and terrorism in its various manifestations. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov noted that in the Kremlin, as throughout Russia, they preserve the memory of those killed in the terrorist attack in Nord-Ost. Those who helped rescue the hostages are not forgotten either.

“Russia has repeatedly encountered terrorists, terrorism in its various manifestations, and we know better than many others what it is and how uncompromisingly we must fight it, which Russia is doing now and will always do,” the press secretary concluded president.

October 23, 2002 at the Dubrovka Theater Center in Moscow during a screening of the musical “Nord-Ost” burst in four dozen terrorists. For three days they held 912 hostages, including women and children, in a mined building. On October 26, an assault took place, before which gas was released into the ventilation system. 130 hostages died, mostly after being evacuated from the building. In March 2017, the Moscow District Military Court sentenced the only defendant in the case of this terrorist attack: Khasan Zakaev was found guilty of participation in a criminal community, preparation for a terrorist attack, complicity in hostage-taking, attempted murder of two or more persons, illegal possession of weapons and intentional destruction of someone else’s property. According to investigators, he was part of the organized criminal group of Shamil Basayev and helped the terrorists deliver weapons and improvised explosive devices to Moscow, which were then used in Dubrovka.
