Kremlin denies Kyiv’s allegations that Russia is provoking famine in Africa

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called unfounded the allegations of Ukrainian officials that Russia, through its actions, is provoking famine in Africa, allegedly with the aim of causing new waves of migration.

According to a Kremlin spokesman, such accusations are “completely baseless and erroneous.” Moreover, the press secretary of the Russian leader called the relevant statements “deliberate distortion of reality.” Peskov stressed that the shortage of grain and food on the African continent has nothing to do with the position of the Russian Federation, and Russia, on the contrary, takes a responsible position, and, despite its failure to fulfill its obligations towards Moscow, has repeatedly extended the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

Vladimir Putin’s spokesman pointed out that Russia continues to take a responsible position even now, despite the fact that the “grain deal” does not work. Peskov recalled the initiative to send a free batch of grain to the poorest countries of the African continent, which was announced at the Russia-Africa summit. The Kremlin spokesman added that Russia continues to trade in grains and is a responsible and very serious supplier, despite the difficulties that the countries of the European Union (EU) and the United States impose on it. He clarified that these are illegitimate restrictions on Russian suppliers.
