Kremlin considers US decision to transfer depleted uranium projectiles to Kyiv “bad news”

The use of shells with depleted uranium has very sad consequences, recorded by international organizations. Therefore, the US decision to transfer them to Kyiv is “very bad news,” said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“The use of these projectiles resulted in a galloping increase in the number of people suffering from oncology and other diseases. These consequences are also felt by subsequent generations of those who somehow came into contact with and were in the areas where these weapons were used. This is very bad news,” he said.

Peskov noted that these shells have already been used in the modern history of Europe – they were used in Yugoslavia. He recalled the “sad consequences” recorded by international organizations. Peskov added that “unfortunately, the same situation will inevitably await those Ukrainian territories where they will be used.”

“Of course, responsibility for this will lie entirely with the US leadership, which made this decision. Everyone should be aware of this,” said the presidential press secretary.

September 6 Pentagon announced on the transfer of shells with depleted uranium for Abrams tanks to Ukraine. They will become part of the 46th $175 million aid package to Ukraine, which will also include ammunition for HIMARS, equipment to support Ukrainian air defense systems, 155 and 105 mm artillery shells, Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems, etc.

At the White House statedthat the shells do not pose a radioactive threat. At the UN spoke against the use of depleted uranium projectiles “anywhere in the world”.

The Kremlin, commenting on the US plans to continue providing assistance to Ukraine, said that this would not affect the course of the special operation. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov named the states’ decision is a “criminal act.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin before warnedthat Moscow will be forced to respond to the supply of shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine. According to him, this decision demonstrates the willingness of the West to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian, not in words but in deeds.
