Kommersant warned of a multiple reduction in imported veterinary drugs

Tighter rules for the introduction of veterinary drugs into circulation may lead to a multiple reduction in the number of available foreign products for pets. About it informed “Kommersant” with reference to suppliers.

According to the Association of Veterinary Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (AVPHARM) as of July 10, only 19 out of 127 veterinary drugs comply with the new rules. At the same time, the list does not include dental and cardiological drugs, as well as antibacterial sprays, vaccines and original drugs that have been developed over the past 3-7 years, AVPHARM added.

According to the new rules, which will come into force on September 1, the products of companies that failed to pass the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) test will be banned from deliveries to Russia. To put veterinary drugs into circulation, it is necessary to provide the Rosselkhoznadzor with a quality document and GMP confirmation.

It is clarified that the new rules will affect not only new suppliers, but also old ones. In particular, members of AVPHARM, which includes four companies – MSD Animal Health, Elanco, Boehringer Ingelheim and Zoentis, are most often denied drug certification. According to information RBCthese companies supply to the Russian market up to 47% of imported veterinary drugs.

On May 12, Sergei Lisovsky, member of the Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues declaredthat veterinary drugs should be labeled on a par with pharmaceuticals. “We have very big problems with veterinary drugs. Especially now, when the admission to the market due to the current international situation of conscientious manufacturers, including foreign ones, is limited. And here, of course, it is necessary to restore order, as it was in the pharmaceutical system,” the deputy explained.

At the beginning of April 2022, Yan Muzalevsky, head physician of the Alisa network of Moscow veterinary clinics told Vedomosti that Russian veterinary clinics are faced with a shortage of drugs for anesthesia. At the same time, the chief anesthesiologist of the veterinary clinic “Biocontrol” at the Russian Cancer Research Center named after V.I. Blokhin Evgeny Kornyushenkov. It was reported that the clinics were short of zoletil from the French company Virbac and telazol from the American company Zoetis.
