Putin served as president from 2000 to 2008, and then starting in 2012. The last elections took place in 2018. Under current law, the president of Russia is elected for a six-year term. In 2020, amendments to the Constitution came into force, which give Putin the right to be elected to office in 2024 and to be president until 2036.
