Senator Andrei Klishas commented decision of the State Council of Tatarstan to rename the position of the president of the republic into the “head” only after the expiration of the term of the current leader Rustam Minnikhanov. Andrey Klishas stressed that Tatarstan must comply with the provisions of the federal law on renaming the head of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation within the prescribed period.
“Tatarstan must comply with the provisions of the Federal Law exactly on time, this applies to all provisions of federal legislation, including the name of the highest official of the Republic. I think that the right and wise decision will be made in Kazan,” Andrey Klishas wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to the law adopted today, on December 23, by the regional parliament, the position of the president of the republic will be renamed the “head – raisa of Tatarstan” (from Arabic – chairman, chief). However, the changes will take effect only after the next elections, which will be held in 2025. Tatarstan remains the last subject of the federation, the head of which is called the president.
The Law on Public Authority entered into force on 1 June. In particular, it introduces a provision according to which the head of a subject of the Russian Federation can be called the head, governor, mayor, but not the president, since this is the position of the head of state. Separate provisions of this law should come into force on January 1, 2023.
