Klishas invited those wishing to return the death penalty to submit an action plan

Those who propose to return the death penalty in Russia should understand the plan of action for this, since the introduction of this measure of punishment is possible only with the adoption of a new Constitution. This statement was made by the head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Andrey Klishas.

“Here they are going to “insist on the introduction of the death penalty for murderers of children and terrorists”, I would like to understand the action plan of the initiators of the return of the death penalty (unless, of course, this plan does not consist of loud statements)”, — wrote he is in his Telegram channel.

Klishas also recalled the words of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin, who saidthat the abolition of the moratorium on the death penalty is possible only after the adoption of the new Constitution of the Russian Federation.

Earlier today, the leader of the Just Russia – For Truth party, Sergei Mironov, in an interview with RIA Novosti declaredthat the party would push for the death penalty “for terrorists and paedophiles”. According to the politician, the majority of Russians will support the return of this measure of punishment.

In December 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin declaredthat his position against the return of the death penalty has not changed. The head of state also referred to Zorkin’s conclusion. In November last year, Klishas already said on the impossibility of returning the death penalty in the Russian Federation under the current Constitution. Also in the Kremlin stressedthat there is no discussion on this issue.
