The legislative reaction of the Russian authorities to the activities of the International Criminal Court (ICC) will be unnecessary, since it is a “fictitious institution” and its decisions are void, declared TASS head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Andrey Klishas.
The senator commented on the proposal of State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, who today called for a legislative ban on any activity of the ICC in Russia and to introduce responsibility for its support.
“The ICC is a fictitious institution, its decisions are insignificant, it does not create legal consequences for Russia. The legislative response of the Russian authorities to this corrupt and incompetent quasi-court would be unnecessary,” Klishas said.
On March 17, the Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights in the Russian Federation. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the decisions of the International Criminal Court have no legal force and are void. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev said that this decision would have “monstrous” consequences for international law, and added that “practical value [в этом нет] no”.
March 20 Russian Investigative Committee aroused criminal case against ICC Prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan and Judges Tomoko Akane, Rosario Salvatore Aytala and Sergio Gerardo Ugalde Godinez. Volodin also said that these judges should be held accountable.
