Kiev rejected talks with the Russian Federation on the basis of the initiatives of Indonesia, Brazil and Africa

Any negotiation process with Russia is impossible on the basis of Indonesian, Brazilian or African peace initiatives, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, said.

“This is pointless, dangerous and fatal – for Ukraine, for Europe, for international law… There are no “Russian-fragile”, Indonesian, Brazilian or African “foundations” for this at all,” he wrote on Twitter.

On May 16, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa proposed his plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He announced that on the draft peace agreement, he had previously held telephone consultations with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian head of state Vladimir Putin. The initiative was supported by Zambia, Senegal, Congo, Uganda and Egypt.

Prior to this, the peace plan was presented by Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. In particular, Indonesia offered Moscow and Kyiv an immediate ceasefire and a 15 km retreat from their current positions in each direction to create a demilitarized zone. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko rejected the Indonesian peace plan, while Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Rudenko noted that Russia would study the plan if it was officially received.

In April, Brazilian President Lula da Silva proposed the formation of a group of countries that would take on a mediating mission between Moscow and Kiev to end the war and establish peace. The Kremlin said that Moscow is ready to listen to the proposals of Brazil to achieve peace in Ukraine, which will take into account the interests of Russia. All these plans, as well as the settlement option proposed by China, were rejected by the West and Ukraine, among other things, because they contained a ceasefire clause.
