Kenyan Ambassador Responds to Borrell’s Words to Africans Supporting Russia

Residents of Kenya know where Russia is, said Ambassador of the African Republic Benson Ogutu in interview “RIA Novosti”, commenting on the words of the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
On December 8, Borrell, at a meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Combating Foreign Interference, said that in Africa, young people took to the streets with posters “Putin, you saved the Donbass and now you will save us!” In his opinion, they do not know who Russian President Vladimir Putin is and where the Donbass is located, thus he questioned the sincerity of the pro-Russian slogans.
“This is his (Borrell’s) opinion, but as the Ambassador of Kenya, I can assure you that our relations with Russia have developed fruitfully since independence 59 years ago. We know where Russia is and we have no problem with that,” Ogutu said.
The ambassador noted that the trade turnover between the two countries is now about $400 million, but now Russia’s export is five times higher than Kenya’s. The republic wants to increase the supply of tea and coffee.
December 9 Borrell’s words commented and Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that Africa knows what role Russia played in the liberation of the continent from colonialism. “There is practically no African country that would not have received our support at one time: political, informational, economic, and sometimes military,” he said then.
