The nephew of assassinated US President John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy Jr. announced his presidential candidacy as an independent candidate. He announced this at a rally of supporters in Philadelphia.
“Being independent from political parties does not mean making them my enemy. <...> As President, I will work with members of both parties who want to join me in serving our country,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Kennedy Jr. was nominated by the US Democratic Party in April, but to do this he will have to defeat incumbent US President Joe Biden, who intends to remain in power for a second term, in the primaries.
In July, Kennedy Jr. said that the United States needed to act “like his uncle,” John Kennedy, by establishing dialogue with Russia. Before that, he called Ukraine a victim of the confrontation between Russia and the United States. He explained that if he wins the elections, he will achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine as soon as possible.
The US presidential elections will take place in November 2024. Among Republicans, former President Donald Trump has announced his candidacy – he is currently the most popular representative of the Republicans, despite a criminal case for storing secret documents.
