Kazakhstan responded to accusations of “flooding” Russia through the Tobol

The Ministry of Water Resources of Kazakhstan said that since the beginning of April it has been coordinating water discharges with Russia

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan commented on the statements of the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Yakushev about the possible involvement in the floods in the Kurgan and Tyumen regions of an uncoordinated discharge of water from Kazakhstan reservoirs.

“It is incorrect to say that Kazakhstan influences floods in Russia,” stated RBC in the ministry.

The publication’s interlocutor emphasized that the Tobol River is filling to dangerous levels from Russian territory. Also, a representative of the department said that from April 2, the Kazakh side has been informing the Russian side about decisions made on water discharges along the Tobol.

The ministry also stated that the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan exchange information on discharge volumes around the clock, so there is no talk of uncoordinated actions.
