The import of cars from Kazakhstan to Russia over the eight months of this year increased 15 times at once compared to the same period in 2021. Such data are provided on the website of the Federal Customs Service (FTS).
In total, over the above period, 6.5 thousand cars were imported to Russia from Kazakhstan.
At the same time, the FCS recalled that citizens who permanently live in the territory of the Russian Federation are prohibited from importing cars manufactured in Kazakhstan into the country at “reduced” and “zero” rates of import customs duties, although the EAEU countries have a single economic space.
This is due to the fact that Kazakhstan has obligations that it assumed when joining the World Trade Organization
The Federal Customs Service recommended that Russians who plan to purchase a car in Kazakhstan ask the seller for documents confirming that the car was imported or released in Kazakhstan with full payment of import duties, and not at a “reduced” rate, or using a “customs benefit”.
