Kazakhstan has closed its trade office in Russia, according to resolution Government of the Republic of February 22.
“Liquidate the state institution “Trade Representation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation” of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the document says.
The Decree shall enter into force from the date of its signing.
The closure of the trade representation of Kazakhstan on behalf of the Prime Minister of the Republic Alikhan Smailov became known on February 1. The Ministry of Trade and Integration of the republic then explained this decision by “optimizing the work of state bodies” and a high level of mutual cooperation with Russia.
The ministry emphasized that institutional conditions have been created for Kazakh business to work in the Russian direction and resolve all operational issues. Representative office staff will be sent to strengthen the diplomatic presence of Kazakhstan in other countries.
The abolition of the trade mission will not require the cancellation of the intergovernmental agreement on the mutual establishment of trade missions of October 22, 1992 and will not affect the work of the Russian trade mission in the republic, the ministry noted. At the same time, the Russian side does not plan to close its trade mission in the republic, spoke formerly Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
