Deputy Kartapolov said that there is no need for two years of military service
Andrey Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Committee on Defense, said that the deputies have no plans to make changes to the length of military service in the RF Armed Forces. According to Kartapolov, the duration of service remains at one year. He added that there was no need for two years of service.
According to Kartapolov, today’s young Russians can learn everything necessary within the framework of the military specialty in six months, and it will take another six months to develop skills.
“Why then keep a man in the army for another year,” he added, “if he goes through the same thing?”
Earlier on Friday, Kartapolov said that a new amendment was being made to the legislation: the draft age would be from 18 to 30 starting from the spring 2024 draft. At the end of December last year, Kartapolov announced that the draft age in Russia was being raised to 30 years old so that very young people would not go into the army – the lower bar for conscription should have risen to 21 years old. Now, announcing a change in plans on this issue, Kartapolov said that the draft is maintained from the same age, “because a lot of guys want to go to serve at the age of 18.”
Over the past year, the head of the Duma Defense Committee has repeatedly reported on various changes in the legislation relating to military service. So, he talked about digital innovations in the military registration and enlistment offices, providing for the renewal of the base of military personnel and electronic notifications of subpoenas. Among other things, Kartapolov explained that the idea of sending notices of agendas via SMS designed for the convenience of citizens.
