Kadyrov announced his intention to remain as head of Chechnya

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said that he would leave the post of head of the region only after the permission of the people and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The corresponding message was published today in Kadyrov’s Telegram channel.
“That day [когда глава Чечни объявил о возможности покинуть пост] I came across a publication that said that I had been in my position for 15 years and that I was a “long-liver” among the heads of regions. <...>. Later I found out that I am not like that and I am a “long-liver” – the previous record, as it turns out, is 27 years. Therefore, I will say more: now I have decided to go for breaking the current record. Let’s see if I can bypass this indicator, ”he said.
According to Kadyrov, this year he won’t even take his annual vacation, so he suggested postponing talk of an “indefinite vacation” for the future.
On September 3, Kadyrov published a video on his Telegram channel, where he stated that he was a “long-liver” among the heads of regions and had already “stayed too long” in his post. He suggested that his “time too had come” before he was “kicked out” and announced plans to take an extended “indefinite” leave.
This is not the first such statement by Kadyrov about a possible resignation. In February 2016, when the next term of his powers as the head of the region expired, in an interview with the NTV channel, he said that “the state leadership needs to find another person”: “My time has already come. There is a limit for a person.” But a month later, Kadyrov explained to Interfax that he was not going to leave, he did not discuss such a possibility with the country’s leadership, but simply answered journalists’ questions. In the fall of 2016, Kadyrov was elected head of Chechnya.
