Joining the ICC treaty explained in Armenia

The Armenian authorities have heard Russia’s fears in connection with Yerevan’s plans to ratify the agreement on the International Criminal Court, Hakob Arshakyan, vice speaker of the national assembly of the republic, said. His words are quoted by “Armenpress”.
According to him, Yerevan is capable of pursuing a policy that will not harm the strategic relations between Russia and Armenia.
Arshakyan said that the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers approved the bill on joining the ICC back in December, and in January requested a review from the Constitutional Court. Armenia is counting on the possibility of bringing Azerbaijan to justice with the help of the ICC, he said, which was mentioned last year.
According to him, at that time the Armenian authorities could not know how events would turn out.
On March 17, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova “in the context of the situation in Ukraine.” Earlier, German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said in an interview with Die Zeit that the German authorities would be obliged to arrest Vladimir Putin if he arrived in Germany.
Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, speaking at the UN Security Council, said that all documents of the International Criminal Court for Russia are void and illegal. He also called the ICC a “biased, politicized, incompetent” organization, noting that it “proved once again its inferiority.”
