British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his condolences over the death Mikhail Gorbachev, the last General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the only President of the USSR. The British Prime Minister said that he always admired his courage and honesty.

In recent years, Mikhail Gorbachev suffered from kidney disease. He died at the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow on August 30. He was 91 years old. The politician will be buried at the Novodevichy cemetery next to his wife. The date of the funeral is not yet known.
Mikhail Gorbachev was General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee from March 1985 to August 1991, and President of the USSR from 1990 to 1991. He resigned on December 25, 1991, and the next day the Soviet Union ceased to exist.
In October 1990, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The award was presented “in recognition of his leading role in the peace process, which characterizes an important part of the life of the international community.”
