Johnson proposed arming Ukraine with World War II fighter jets

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an interview CNN said that Ukraine needed the simplest aircraft to fight drones, for example, British Spitfire fighters from the Second World War.
The ex-premier noted that London had already handed over modern artillery weapons to Kyiv. At the same time, according to him, Britain would like to send not only helicopters to Ukraine, but also planes that “can fly fast enough” and destroy drones.
“Ukrainians will have enough Spitfire fighters,” Johnson said jokingly, lamenting that these planes were no longer produced.
During World War II, Great Britain produced over 20,000 Spitfire fighters. As of 2022, there are about 40 airworthy aircraft left.
