The resigned British Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated his successor Liz Truss on her victory in the election of the head of the Conservative Party and the government of the kingdom. He wrote about this on his Twitter page.

“Congratulations to Liz Truss on her decisive victory. I am confident that she has the right plan to overcome the cost of living crisis, unite our party and continue the great work of uniting and strengthening our country,” Johnson wrote.

The politician also noted that he was proud to have been the leader of the Conservative Party for the past three years, “winning a large majority of votes in recent decades, achieving Brexit, ensuring the fastest distribution of vaccines in Europe and providing vital support to Ukraine.”

Earlier today, Truss won the race for the post of prime minister of the kingdom and leader of the ruling Conservative Party in an internal party vote. Truss received 81,326 rank-and-file votes, while her rival, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, received 60,399 votes.

Truss will become the third woman to head the cabinet after Margaret Thatcher in 1979-1990. and Theresa May in 2016-2019. She served as Minister of the Environment, Food and Agriculture in the first and second cabinets of David Cameron in 2014-2016, Minister of Justice and Lord Chancellor in the first cabinet of Theresa May in 2016-2017. In 2021, she was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom.
