Joe Biden Blasts Liz Truss Politics: ‘Mistake’

US President Joe Biden called Liz Truss’s economic plan a “mistake” and hinted that he wasn’t the only one who thought so. This statement by the head of the White House has become another knife in the back of the head of the British government going to the bottom.

The US president has called Liz Truss’ initial economic plan a “mistake” amid continued criticism of the UK prime minister’s fiscal policy, Sky News reports.

Speaking to reporters after stopping at an ice cream parlor in Oregon, Joe Biden said he was “not the only one who thinks it was a mistake” and that the poor outcome of the British government’s mini-budget was “predictable.”

Liz Truss’s economic plan, which sent financial markets into chaos and caused the pound’s value to plummet, was dismissed by critics for not using Fiscal Responsibility Office forecasts.

As a result, the British Prime Minister was forced to abandon her aggressive tax cut initiative and dismiss Kwasi Kwarteng from the post of chancellor (head of the Treasury).

Asked about strategy, Biden explained that while he disagrees with Prime Minister Truss’s plan, it is ultimately up to the British people.

He also dismissed concerns about the strength of the dollar after the pound’s turbulent period, saying: “I’m not worried about the strength of the dollar. The rest of the world worries me.”

Even the newly appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt, said there were mistakes in the British government’s original economic plan and spent the weekend trying to sway the Conservatives to the side of the new Downing Street regime.

Jeremy Hunt, who met with Treasury officials on Saturday, insisted that he and the prime minister are a “team” that prioritizes “growth underpinned by stability.”

“The drive to grow the economy is the right thing to do — it means more people can get good jobs, new businesses can thrive, and we can provide world-class public services. But we have gone too far and too fast,” he said.

As Jeremy Hunt begins his work on a new budget ready for Oct. 31, one possible plan, according to The Sunday Times, would be to delay his sacked predecessor Kwarteng’s goal of cutting the base income tax rate by a year as part of a more a broad package designed to calm financial markets.

In the meantime, Labor launched a new attack on the Conservative Party, launching a series of scathing advertising materials against Liz Truss and her team.

The Labor Party, led by Keir Starmer, will look to capitalize on the current leadership crisis in the Truss government and unpopular economic policies in preparation for the next general election.

In a set of four denunciatory posters, Labor targeted the Tories for disrupting the economy, boosting mortgages and “destroying Britain’s position on the world stage”.

In one poster, the heads of Prime Minister and former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng were “attached” to test dummies with the caption: “These dummies ruined the economy.”

Another poster shows Liz Truss and newly appointed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt dressed as clowns, with the caption: “Check out the clowns.”

Another poster with a tattered flag states “The UK’s reputation is in tatters.”

Tory recklessness is destroying Britain’s position on the world stage. Only Labor has a plan to restore it,” the poster reads.

The Conservatives are accused by Labor of making “thousands of hard-working families pay an extra £500 a month in mortgages”.
