US President Joe Biden has not changed his decision not to send US troops to Ukraine. John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council, told reporters on Monday.
Kirby commented on a CBS footage in which the commander of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army, which arrived in Romania, announced his readiness to “enter the territory of Ukraine.” According to the commander, such a possibility exists “if there is a military escalation or an attack on NATO.”
The coordinator said that “there is no change in the Supreme Commander’s decision that no US troops will take part in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.”
He repeated once more: “That hasn’t changed.”
At the same time, Kirby noted that he could not comment on the statements of the command of the 101st division. “I know they are taking part in NATO exercises with some of our allies,” he said. At the same time, he stressed that “the president was extremely clear: the US Armed Forces will not fight on the territory of Ukraine.”
